Toyota Highlander 2025
2.4 turbo: The base LE trim has been abandoned, leaving the XLE at the cheapest model for 2025. The XSE trim now features a digital gauge display. Some content shuffles withing the various trim packages.
Hybrid: The Hybrid identifier has been replaced by an HEV tag.
A 2.4L turbo four, with 265 horsepower is the sole engine offered on the non-hybrid Highlander. Towing capacity is a robust 2268 kilograms. Power flows to all wheels via a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. The turbo four is quick and, except when extended when it sounds enthusiastic, is reasonably refined. That said, it lacks the silky-smooth soundtrack of the 3.5L V6 it replaced. Abundant soft-touch surfaces, even on the tops of the rear doors, are present, and all surfaces appear quite luxurious. A massive 12.3 inch infortainment touch screen is featured on top models and controls are quite logical. Legroom in the first two rows of seats is very good and third-row space looks reasonable for this class. Cargo room with the third seat arrayed to accept passengers is fairly typical for this segment. The hybrid twins a 2.5L four, which, in unison with its electric motors, puts out 243 horsepower. The hybrid sends power to the front wheels via a CVT; with the rear wheels being driven electrically.
Turbo: with all-wheel drive, a full safety suite, power front seats, a sunroof, wireless cellphone charging and a heated steering wheel, the base XLE trim is nicely equipped. The XSE trim adds a digital gauge package and second-row captain chairs. Moving up to the Limited trim brings along leather seating, a JBL-branded audio system, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and rear auto braking. The range-topping Platinum model is equipped with a 360 degree camera system and a head-up display.
Hybrid: The LE, with an active security system including blind spot monitors, a power tailgate and heated front seats, in well equipped. The XLE trim adds a sunroof, a power front passenger suite, a heated steering wheel and wireless cellphone charging. The XLE is just a black out trim package. The Limited trim adds a JBL-branded audio system, a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, ventilated front seats, second-row captain seats, rear auto braking and a digital gauge package. The Platinum range-topper adds a head-up display system, a 360 degree cameral system and second-row heated seats. The turbo and hybrid models only line up with the XLE trim, where the hybrid generates a $3200 price premium.
The turbo variant is available in about three months, with the hybrid taking around nine months to arrive.
Predicted above average reliability, especially the hybrid, which uses proven technology. Unproven 2.4L turbo four which had a troubled launch with a number of engine failures reported early in its production programme.
