Dodge RAM 2025
Our 2025 model year review.
The updated RAM, built on the same wheelbase as last year, is marginally shorter and lower. The 3.6L-V6 eTorque mild hybrid engine returns as the base engine for 2025. The long-serving 5.7L-V8 has been replaced by a new 3L inline six turbo engine. The base SST cranks out 420 horsepower, with the SST HO version of the engine rated at 540 horsepower. A hyper-performance variant is expected to follow. Power is sent to the rear, or optionally, all wheels, via an eight-speed automatic in all cases.
The updated RAM, built on the same wheelbase as last year, is marginally shorter and lower. Frontal styling is new but oh-so-familiar, with the side profile essentially unchanged. Each trim will be fronted by a unique grille. The overall look is sleek for a pickup.
The cabin is significantly updated. Driver’s face a crisply-marked 12.3 inch digital gauge cluster. The centre of the dashboard is dominated by a 14.5 inch, vertically-oriented screen, and on premium trims front passengers can gaze at a 10 inch screen. RAM employs a rotary gear selector once again. With a combination of physical buttons and logical touchscreen surfaces, drivers should be comfortable with the controls. Cabin space is vast. Features and trim appearance vary from adequate and plain on the base Tradesman trim to overwhelming and sumptuous on the range-topping Tungsten model.
Extended cab and crew cab models are available; almost all non-commercial buyers pick the crew cab.
New features available for 2025 include a head-up display, a power tailgate and Hands-free Driving Assist, a Level 2 limited automated driving capability.
Impossibly vast model range. Most trims are only offered in the crewcab body style but the base Tradesman and mainstream Big Horn trim can be had in a quad cab body style. Moving from the quad to the crewcab body style costs $1500. The 3.6 L-V6 eTorque is standard on the Tradesman and Big Horn trims. The inline six turbo is a $3795 option on the Tradesman and Big Horn trims and standard on the Sport, Rebel and Laramie trims. The Limited is powered by the H.O. version of the six. The Tradesman is meant for commercial users. However, it is equipped with a full safety suite including forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control, blind spot and rear cross traffic warnings and a lane keep assist system. Moving up to the Big Horn model, the least expensive trim to meet the expectations of mainstream buyers, adds alloy wheels, carpeting and cloth seats. The Sport, with navigation, junction turning intervention, a power driver’s seat, power-operated pedals, an Alpine audio system, heated seats and steering wheel and a 360 degree camera system, is nicely equipped. The Laramie model includes leather seating and a power passenger seat. The Limited variant includes upgraded leather seating as well as a wireless cellphone charger. The announced Tungsten trim was not yet available in late 2024. At around $64,000, the crewcab Big Horn V6, the least expensive vehicle non-commercial buyers would find acceptable, is witheringly expensive. RAM and the Stellantis Group have allowed pricing to get well in front of the pocketbooks of people who are current owners of their products, few of whom will be able, or willing, to accept the massive price increases that have taken place since they bought their last vehicle.
Reliability is expected to be average at best. The new inline turbo six is unproven. The returning V6 engine will develop valve train issues as it ages. The available air suspension lacks durability.

What’s new this year?
A significant update of an existing model. The popular 5.7L-V8 has been replaced by a new turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. RAM announced a hyper-lavishly equipped Tungsten range-topper but it was still a no-show as of late 2024.
