Nissan Pathfinder 2025

Our 2025 model year review.

The Platinum trim features a second row bench this year. Front passenger seat height adjustment has been added to the S, SV and Rock Creek trims. The SL Premium trim has been discontinued.

The current model, released for 2023, was not a new vehicle but a remake of the vehicle that debuted for 2014. Unlike many competitors that are powered by a turbo four, the Pathfinder retains a V6. The fragile CVT in the previous Pathfinder has been replaced by a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission.

On the road, the V6 is smooth, flexible and quick. The V6 is well mated to the conventional automatic transmission. Steering is light and lacks precision at highway speeds and does not reveal any road surface information to the driver. Despite its long wheelbase and massive girth, the Pathfinder’s ride is firm much of the time but occasionally harsh, especially over large bumps. Handling is stable but hardly engaging. Braking is strong with good brake pedal feel and no lost motion. Though the Pathfinder’s engine is smooth and road and wind noise are both well controlled, the Pathfinder is noisier than expected for a high-end luxury vehicle. Knobs and pushbuttons make audio and climate adjustments as simple and natural as they should be in most cars. Air-conditioner performance was very good in soupy summer conditions. The sound quality of the Bose-branded audio system was typically disappointing. There seemed to be a conflict between the iOS-Android interface and the car itself making voice command performance spotty. Towing capacity is higher on the SV and higher trims.

Nissan has emerged from a disastrous styling period and as each updated vehicle line is introduced, the company’s new style direction goes front strength to strength. The new design that debuted for 2013 is a chic, contemporary vehicle. The cabin is also all new and more attractive than previously. That said, the cabin presentation is a bit dated. On premium trims, the driver faces the same digital instrument package as on the Rogue Platinum. The display can be configurated several different ways and is clear enough but looks a bit uninspired. Though the front seats are a bit flat, they are comfortable and remain so for long periods. The second-row seat is supportive and riders enjoy good legrooms. The third-row seat is small and legroom is tight. Cargo space is limited with the third-row seat in place but grows to enormous with the second and third-row seats folded.

The base S trim, with a forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control, blind spot, rear cross traffic and lane departure warning, reverse auto braking, heated front seats and steering wheel, three-zone climate control, rear parking sonar, alloy wheels and L.E.D. headlights, is very well equipped. The SV upgrade increases towing capacity, adds a panoramic sunroof, fog lights, front parking sonar an auto dim rearview mirror and garage door opener buttons. The Rock Creek offers an off-road suspension system but deletes the sunroof that comes with the SV. The SL trim adds leather seating, a 12-way power driver’s seat and a 10-way power passenger seat, heated second-row seat, navigation, wireless iOS-Android cellphone interface and wireless cellphone charging. The range-topping Platinum adds a Bose-branded audio system, Semi-Aniline processed leather and a power-adjustable steering wheel. Second-row captain seats are optional on the Platinum trim.

Predicted reliability is average to below average. The V6 engine is proven and the conventional automatic transmission should be more durable than the fragile Nissan CVT. Premature suspension wear, especially ball joints, is likely. Below average customer service and warranty claims resolutions are typical.
