Mercedes-Benz EQB 2025
The previous 350 trim has been discontinued, leaving the 250+ and the 300.
Two versions of the EQU, the front-wheel drive 250+ and the all-wheel drive 300. The 250+ is powered by a 168 horsepower motor, with the 300 rated at 255 horsepower. Both versions share a 70.5 kWh battery pack. Range for the 250+ is 404 kilometers and 330 kilometers for the all-wheel drive 300. Range of the 300 model driven was (in temperatures of four to seven centigrade) was very close to manufacturer estimates. The EQB’s suspension, with a firmly compliant ride and crisp handling, reflects a lot of careful development by Mercedes. Braking feels solid despite the regenerative element but there is no setting for one-pedal driving.
A number of functions are handled via a series of buttons and toggles grouped in a panel under the dash vents. The graphics on the gauge and infotainment screen are attractive and crisply marked. The front seats are comfortable and hold occupants well. The very cool seat adjusters that resemble the seat itself and are manipulated by moving bits of the seat, are more difficult to used on the road than controls connected directly to the lower seat. Room is good up front. The high-mounted rear seat provides good visibility for children but diminishes rear seat headroom for adults. The rear seatback is split 40/20/40, which enhances versatility. The cargo area is large and nicely finished.
Moving up from the front-wheel drive 250+ variant to the 255 horsepower, all-wheel drive 300 model, costs $5000. The $2000 Driver Assistance package adds active cruise control, active steer assist, evasive steer assist, forward and rear cross traffic monitors, blind spot monitors, lane keep assist, route based speed adaptation and wireless cellphone charging, but much of it should be standard on such an expensive car. The Technology package adds a 360 degree camera system, a Burmester-branded audio system, a vehicle alarm and a head up display system, but is somewhat overpriced. The Exclusive package includes a kick-operated tailgate opener, navigation and wireless cellphone charging, but is significantly overpriced. Most metallic paints cost $950 but Patagonia Red is listed as a $2300 option and Mountain Grey Magno bears a still $4200 tariff. The third-row seat is an $1100 option. There are no incentives offered on electric cars in April 2025.
Electrical faults that are difficult to diagnose are common Mercedes issues. The complexity and rarity of vehicles on this platform could result in problems and nobody will understand this vehicle outside the Mercedes dealer network. Leasing this vehicle to stay within the four year/80,000 kilometer warranty is recommended. Purchasing a Mercedes pre-paid scheduled service plan is highly recommended.
