Kia EV6 2025

The EV6 undergoes a mid-cycle update for 2025. Changes include a new front fascia, lights and grille. Kia notes that the revised front end aligns the EV6’s looks with other Kia models. The rear end of the car has been revised and the rocker mouldings as well. The cabin has been revised with renewed trim, a new centre console design and updated navigation that will take over-the-air updates. Mechanical updates involve a battery pack capacity growth from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh. The structure of the car is said to be stiffer than before and there have been changes to the suspension and steering. Additional sound proofing has been said to enhance refinement. The charge port has been relocated to the left rear fender of the car and Kia have adopted the NACS-Tesla port. Production of the car was supposed to have moved to the U.S. but possible tariff trauma has led Kia Canada to continue to source the car from Korea for our market.

Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Kia EV6, alongside the Hyundai Ioniq 5 were the first examples of a bevy of new Hyundai and Kia BEVs that will launch over the next few years. Kia has conceived its first E-GMP-based model as a crossover. Two battery packs, 63 kWh on the “Light” rear-wheel drive model and an 84 kWh battery pack on other trims. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive delivered via dual motor setup. The “Light” is rated for 381 kilometers, the rear-wheel drive “Wind” is rated for 513 kilometers with the dual-motor versions rated for 475 kilometers. Kia notes that the EV6 can be charged using an 800 volt charger, a technology not generally available in Canada. Unlike the retro-inspired Ioniq 5, the EV6 is clean, uncluttered and arrestingly modern. The EV6 is marginally shorter overall than the Ioniq 5.

Like the related Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 is quick and quiet. The ride of the EV6 is firm, firmer than the related Hyundai Ioniq 5 but compensates with crisper handling.

The EV6 has some of the most bizarrely-named trim variations in the auto industry. The base model, the rear-wheel drive “Light”, is powered by a 63 kWh battery pack. Moving up to the “Wind” rear-wheel drive model increases the battery pack from 63 kWh to 84 kWh and increases range from 381 to 513 kilometers. Stepping up to the “Land” trim includes a dual-motor all-wheel drive system and lowers range to 475 kilometers. The premium package includes a limited self-driving system and a power tailgate. The GT Line boasts a sunroof, and additional trim, including alloy foot pedals. The range-topping GT-Line Limited features a power-adjustable steering wheel, heated rear seats, a Meridian-branded audio system, a head up display system as well as a vehicle to load system that can use the battery pack to power devices while camping or similar. The lack of standard blind spot and rear cross traffic monitors is disappointing on what is a very expensive cars.

Not rated, insufficient data. Few complaints have been received regarding this fearsomely complex car. The integrated charging control unit (ICCU) could become damaged and fail to charge the 12 volt battery, which can immobilize the car. Kia will update vehicle software in an attempt to eliminate the issue.
