Infiniti QX60 2025
The big news is the replacement of the smooth and proven Nissan 3.5L-V6 for the variable compression ratio 2L turbo four which is developing a poor reputation for durability.
The QX60, Infiniti’s spin on the component set of the Nissan Pathfinder. Like the Pathfinder, the latest QX60 was not all new, but an update of the vehicle that debuted as the JX35 for the 2013 model year. The update is quite thorough, with all new exterior styling and a totally redesigned interior. Infiniti has retired its crescent-based styling themes for something new and very elegant. The cabin, like the outside, is very elegant, and like its Pathfinder base unit, is very roomy in the first two rows with competitive third row space. Unlike many new cars that have gone to a wide and shallow computer tablet, the QX60 features a conventional dashboard that has a traditional gauge pod in front of the driver with a large infotainment screen clipped to the top centre of the dashboard. The climate controls are lifted directly from the Pathfinder and are a collection of easy-to-use knobs and pushbuttons. The rest of the cabin is very attractive and uses premium materials.
2024 was likely the peak year for the QX60 as it retained the proven Nissan 3.5L-V6 and replaced the troublesome CVT transmission with a conventional nine-speed automatic. Sadly, for 2025, Nissan has substituted its variable compression ratio 2L turbo four for the V6. The 2L turbo has developed a reputation for poor durability and lacks the sonic civility of the V6. The engine develops 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard.
In the smaller QX50 and QX55 models, the 2L turbo delivers linear performance but is coarse and noisy when accelerating briskly, not what buyers are expecting in a hyper-expensive luxury vehicle. Using the same components as the Pathfinder, the overall driving experience of the QX60 will be underwhelming at best.
The QX60 is offered in a wide array of trims despite the fact that it is a very low-volume model. The base Pure trim features L.E.D. headlights, leather seating, eight-way power front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless iOS-Android cellphone hookup and wireless cellphone charging. The Luxe trim adds 20 inch wheels, navigation, a bigger 12.3 information screen, the ProPilot limited self-driving suite, active cruise control, a power-adjustable steering wheel, a memory system, remote starting and garage door opening buttons. The “Black” edition includes a Bose-branded audio system, enhanced ambient lighting and illuminated door sill trim panels but is poor value. The Sensory trim is enhanced by adaptive value, outside dimming mirrors, massage front seats, genuine wood trim, enhanced climate system and a head up display system at a price that reflects the value of the content provided. Opting for the top trim, the Autograph, adds Semi-Aniline processed leather and a front airbag that deploys between the front seats, but its price supplement is beyond the value of the additional content.
The biggest problem of the previous QX60 was poor CVT durability, which the new conventional nine-speed transmission should address. The replacement of the proven V6 engine with the troubled 2L turbo four, is a retrograde step. Typical Nissan issues like short-lived ball joints and premature failure of components such as air-conditioner compressors and electrical accessories will raise maintenance costs for long-term owners. Leasing would be a way to contain service costs and long term durability concerns.
