Audi Q4 2025
The first all-new Q5 since 2018 and the first total styling theme renewal since 2007.
The Q5 reflects a new direction for Audi, moving away from the form that debuted for 2007 and was updated for 2018. The new-generation Q5 trades the frumpy lines of the 2018 update for a fresh, contemporary design. Cabin impressions are not available as the interior was not accessible.
Power stems from the familiar 2L turbo four that is rated at 268 horsepower, seven more than previously. The new Q5 lacks the mild hybrid system and 48-volt electrical system of its predecessor. The high-performance SQ5 variant is powered by the same 3L turbo V6 used before; it produces 362 horsepower, 13 more than previously. Power reaches all wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automated manual transmission regardless of engine.
Confusingly, both the old and new-generations of the Q5 will be sold as 2025 models. Orders for the new Q5 are being taken now.
The unnamed base model, with leather seating, foot-gesture power tailgate opening, power front seats, heated front seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, a digital gauge cluster, navigation, a 10-speaker audio system, blind spot and rear cross traffic monitors, active cruise control, a wireless version of the iOS-Android cellphone interface and brake hold, is very well equipped. Moving up to the Progressiv trim includes headlight washers, a panoramic sunroof, multi-coloured ambient cabin lighting and a Bang & Olufsen audio system, but is overpriced. The Technik range topper seems pointless as the only features of note are acoustic front door windows and a heated rear seat. It would be better to add the Technik features into the Progressiv and simplify the lineup.
Moving up to the V6-turbo Q5, marketed as the SQ5, costs nearly $15,000 on the Progressiv trim and nearly $16,000 on the Technik.
At $2850, the freight-PDI fee for the Q5 is more of a lifestyle addition than a reflection of shipping cost.
The Q5 should be reasonably reliable during the first four years but historically have become expensive to keep after the short four year/100,000 kilometer powertrain warranty expires. Leasing for no longer than four years is recommended.
