Chevrolet Trailblazer 2024
Our review of the 2024 model year.
Two three-cylinder turbocharged engines are offered. Standard is a 1.2L triple with 137 horsepower that can be twinned with a CVT that sends power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive models are powered by a 155 horsepower 1.3L triple that sends power to the wheels via a conventional, hydraulic, nine-speed automatic transmission. The small engines speak to the fact that these cars will be big players where cars are taxed on engine capacity or CO2 output; and customers in North America are not the main focus for GM. Despite the tiny engines, the official NRCan fuel economy numbers are unimpressive. The Trailblazer is, if a bit overstyled, immediately identifiable as a Chevrolet. The cabin of the Trailblazer features a big digital gauge pod as well a large infotainment screen at the top centre of the dashboard. Cabin and cargo space are ample for this size of car.
The Trailblazer and the latest Trax essentially occupy the same space but Chevrolet differentiates them by not offering all-wheel drive on the Trax.
All-wheel drive is standard on the Active and RS trims and a $2000 option on the LS and LT models. The LS front-wheel drive variant is powered by a 137 horsepower 1.2L three-cylinder turbo that is mated to a CVT. All-wheel drive is packaged with a 1.3L turbo triple that sends power to the wheels is via a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard on the Active and RS trims and a $2000 option on the LS and LT. With all-wheel drive, the LS, with a forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, a lane departure warning, a lane-keep assist system, the base LS is nicely equipped. The LT, which adds keyless access, deep tint glass, blind spot and rear cross traffic monitors, roof rails, deep tint glass, heated front seats and steering wheel and leather wraps for the steering wheel and shifter, is very good value. The Active trim projects a specifically off-road look, but is overpriced, as is the RS trim. Adaptive cruise control is a $595 option starting with the LT trim, is packaged with a premium audio package on the Active and RS models for $1195.
Not rated due to insufficient data, but there have been few complaints about these vehicles.
