Cadillac XT4 2024

Comments

The XT4 is propelled by a single engine, a turbo 2L four, hooked up to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is available but most buyers pick the all-wheel drive system.

The updated XT4 is an elegant vehicle and is a tidy package combining a trim exterior with ample cabin space for four adults. The driver faces what is now becoming an increasingly common shallow, wide, computer tablet with car-related read-outs in front of the driver and infotainment displays on the right of the screen. Audio and climate controls are in two thin bands and look easy to manipulate.

Driven briefly, the XT4’s engine is quick and flexible should be quieter, considering the price of the car. The nine-speed automatic transmission works very smoothly and doesn’t call attention to itself. Ride, handling, steering and braking are well sorted and will please the intended audience.

Pricing

All-wheel drive is standard on the Premium Luxury and Sport trims but is a $3400 option on the base Luxury model. Moving up from the Luxury to Premium Luxury trim adds power fold door mirrors, foot-gesture tailgate opening, leather seating, self parking and power lumbar adjustment, but is overpriced. The Sport trim is the same price as the Premium Luxury but lacks leather seating, making it look expensive. Active cruise control, which should be standard on a car this expensive, is packaged with a $2105 option package. At $900, the metallic paint charge is now the same at the German luxury brands.
