At 2950 mm, the wheelbase splits the difference between the 3000 mm (118 inch) wheelbase of the Ioniq 5 and the 2900 mm (118 inch) wheelbase of the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. Preliminary information notes all trims will be powered by a 77.4 kW battery pack with will send power to either the rear wheels or optionally to all wheels via a dual motor system. The rear-mounted motor on the base car churns out 225 horsepower (168 kW) that drives the rear wheels. All-wheel drive, delivered by a 165 kW rear motor and a 74 kW front-mounted motor, which combined crank out a combined 320 horsepower. Proposed range for rear-wheel drive is 547 kilometres with 499 kilometres possible with the dual-motor, all-wheel drive system. The car can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes using a Level 3 charger.

While the design of the Ioniq 6 is dramatic and attractive, its shape which is more than an homage to the Porsche 911 in sedan form, is hardly original. Regardless of originality, the Ioniq, with a coefficient of drag of .22, is very slippery. Inside, the driver faces a very similar computer tablet with a “vehicle” screen in front of the driver with an “infotainment” section over the centre of the dash. Climate controls and the overall rectangular shape of the dashboard are very similar to those of the Ioniq 5. Conventional interior handles adorn each door but the door pulls are cleverly recessed, but still get the job done. The vertical surfaces of the upper door trims bear a subtle horizontal ribbed motif, with linen-patterned plastic areas on much of the rest of the door. Low-contrast, two-tone cabin hues complete the visually clean interior. Headroom is tight, especially in the rear, and while rear seat legroom is good, the very low-mounted front seats prevent rear seat riders getting their feet under the front seats, reducing real-world, accessible legroom.
