Ford has offered another half measure to owners of the Fiesta and Focus with the troublesome dual clutch automatic transmission. The warranty on the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has been extended to 10 years/240,000 km from the warranty start date, to cover an intermittent loss of transmission engagement while driving, or a reduction of power or possible no-start condition. Ford has waived the time and mileage limits in the warranty extension until June 30, 2025, which means the repair will eventually apply to cars up to 14 years old.
This is the third transmission module program for the Fiesta and Focus that the APA is aware of, following notifications in 2015 and 2017. Like its predecessors, this warranty extension is missing an undertaking to cover the complete transmission repair, so vehicle owners can expect to foot the bill for hard parts like the troublesome internal clutches. Ford will cover one day’s rental while the car is in for a new module. This version of the program does not appear to include an explicit undertaking to reimburse prior repairs.
